Ross Island is a beautiful island located near Port Blair, it is 2/3 km away from Port Blair once it was administrative headquarter for the Britishers, before an earthquake rocked the Island in 1941, after which the Britishers left the island and took shifted their headquarter to Port Blair, since then the Island could never recover from the neglect and decay which had set in. After a time nature took its toll, as banyan trees engulfed the buildings thus replacing the structures created by man. Ross Island makes one nostalgic and takes them back in time when this was an administrative settlement for the Britishers. Some of the old buildings were rebuilt by the Indian Navy like the local stores and the bakery, from where souvenirs are available.
